Behavior Interactif cuts dozens of jobs in Mtl – Radio-Canada.ca

Behavior Interactive, the publisher of the popular horror video game Dead by Daylight, has cut around forty jobs in Montreal, ending the independent studio's honeymoon period, which has grown from one to six locations in less than two years.

We have changed the scope of several of our projects to adapt to the market. This has led to changes in staffing requirements.

When this happens, we always prefer to reassign the person [personnes] in other projects, but unfortunately that was not possible in this case, Marie-Eve Boisvert told Radio-Canada, adding that Behavior Interactif remains in good financial shape.

The company has made numerous announcements with great fanfare in recent years, with the opening of a new office in Toronto and the acquisition of studios in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

This rapid rise has now come to an end with the layoffs of 39 employees in the Mile End district offices and one person in Toronto.

The studio employs more than 1,350 people worldwide, most of them in the Montreal office.

Its main source of income is the horror game Dead by Daylight, which has a huge player base of around 50 million players worldwide. This title will feature a collaboration with popular video game character Alan Wake in January.

The company is increasingly diversifying its catalog with the launch of Meet Your Maker in 2023, a first-person strategy and shooter video game.

The tech industry has been under attack since the start of 2024, and several job cuts have been announced. The company that makes the Unity game engine and has a studio in Montreal announced earlier this month that it would cut 25% of its workforce.
