A tenant with limited mobility would have been forgotten or completely abandoned by their landlord in their Shawinigan accommodation. He is forced to use his stove for heating because the means of keeping warm has stopped working since November last year.
Worse still, the running water in the kitchen and bathroom is cut off; An extremely difficult situation for the man who still lives in the apartment.
From the street you can see that the building appears abandoned. The windows are boarded up, the door is even broken.
The tenant also explained that squatters enter the property at night to keep warm.
“It is no longer dark, but those who were there yesterday made a commotion by then [très tard]» says Johnny Couture.
“I heard prodding because they were looking everywhere,” he continues.
The owner without solution
The situation forced the fire department to inspect the building on Friday because there are risks involved in using the stove for heating.
Listening to the interventionist's advice, Mr. Couture ultimately made the decision to leave the apartment at the end of the day.
The owner was contacted by a Projet Logis-Aide employee but did not offer a solution.
“He told me if the tenant had $6,000 he could do the renovations,” explains Katherine Beaulieu.
“I told him that the responsibility for payment does not lie with the tenant, but with you. He replied: “If I don't have the means to pay, there's no point in taking me to court, he'll never have the money,” she added.
Although the resident of the house cannot even lock his doors, he did not want to leave his apartment because he valued his personal belongings that were still there.
