The conservative portal The Daily Wire has funded advertising against Amber Heard on social networks with thousands of dollars, according to a report by Vice.
The actress’ legal battle with her exhusband Johnny Depp is currently one of the most engaged topics and the American vehicle with a strong presence on the networks has paid to promote articles against her on Instagram and Facebook.
There are texts and videos from rightwing commentators criticizing the actress’ behavior as an attempt to destroy Depp’s reputation. According to Vice, $35,000 to $47,000 was spent on promoted content.
In court, the actor is suing his ex for defamation and $50 million over an article in the Washington Post in which she claimed she was a victim of domestic violence. She sued him back, demanding double the amount.
The case has gained traction online. According to a NewsWhip survey cited in the report, the Heard v. From April 4 to May 16, Depp was the topic with the most interactions on social networks per article, on average ahead of topics such as the war in Ukraine.
The trial is expected to further divide opinion online over the next week as it is due to end on May 27.
