‘Theories about alcoholism are very true, and it’s very sad’: Republican Madison Cawthorne claims Nancy Pelosi has a ‘drinking problem’ even though she’s sober.
- North Carolina spokeswoman Madison Cawthorne falsely claimed that Speaker Pelosi had a “drinking problem.”
- Pelosi doesn’t drink
- In 2020, it was revealed that a video of Pelosi slurring words that had gone viral had been altered.
- Some Republicans condemned Cawthorne’s comments last week calling Ukraine’s struggling President Zelenskiy a “thug.”
Rep. Madison Cawthorne (RN.C.) told a room full of supporters that Nancy Pelosi has a “drinking problem” even though the Speaker of the House doesn’t drink.
“The rules for you, not for me, I think are Nancy Pelosi’s, that’s the Nancy Pelosi campaign slogan,” Cawthorne said, lashing out at Pelosi, a figure who frequently appeared in GOP campaign ads and fundraising campaigns. The line is the favorite of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (California).
But Chowrne went even further, saying, “I’ll tell you I have to work with her every single day, so please pray for me.” The theories about alcoholism are very true and it’s very sad,” he said, according to a video posted by Patriot Takes.
His remark caused laughter during the event.
According to fact checkers and family members, 81-year-old Pelosi does not drink and has not drunk for many years.
SLUR: Rep. Madison Cawthorne (RN.C.) in comments to supporters put forth “alcoholism theories” about Speaker Nancy Pelosi, even though the speaker doesn’t drink
In the past, she has been the subject of fake videos that have been manipulated to give the impression that she is slurring.
It has been revealed that a 2020 video of her slurring words and drinking from a plastic cup has been altered.
Pelosi stumbled across the word “confabulator” a bit during a May 2020 press conference when she was asked to comment on Trump’s tweet accusing MSNBC host Joe Scarborough of murder.
Her daughter Christine Pelosi tweeted another such video in 2019. “#FactCheck: Ms. Speaker doesn’t even drink alcohol!” she tweeted.
Cawthorne has come under fire from some Republican colleagues after calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “thug” and saying his government is “corrupt and incredibly vicious” even as Zelensky fights for his life during a Russian invasion of his country.
“Remember Zelensky is a thug,” the 26-year-old Republican freshman said in a short clip shared by WRAL, apparently referring to a US military aide in the beleaguered country.
Fact-checkers have been reporting for more than a decade that Pelosi does not drink.

Cawthorne laughed when he referred to “alcoholism theories”.
Pelosi was the subject of faked videos suggesting she was drunk.
The comments came after Cawthorne was caught on video humiliating Ukrainian President Zelenskiy as a thug, even as Ukraine is suffering from a Russian invasion.
According to CNN, Cawthorne made the comments to a group of supporters in Asheville, North Carolina.
About an hour after the video was first posted, a North Carolina MP denounced the Russian intrusion on Twitter, but then staggeringly accused Zelensky of spreading “disinformation” to draw Americans into the conflict.
South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, like Cawthorne, a Trump confidant, criticized the comments after they were circulated. “It looks like 90 percent of the country belongs to Ukrainians,” Graham said. “So when you see a member of Congress saying things like that, I want you to know one thing, that they are an exception in the greatest possible sense on our part.”
Cawthorne is one of 17 MPs, 15 Republicans and two Democrats, who voted against a Russian energy ban in response to the invasion of Ukraine, calling the law a “virtue signal.”
