The company announced on Thursday that its stores will stop offering single-use plastic bags from September to reduce overpackaging.

“Our goal is to optimize our packaging and printed matter by reducing their consumption, designing them optimally, choosing environmentally friendly materials and facilitating their recovery and recycling,” said Marie-Claude Bacon, Vice-President of Business Public and Communications METRO.

According to Ms. Bacon, this decision “will make it possible to avoid the circulation of more than 330 million plastic bags annually”.

As a leader in the food and pharmaceutical sectors, METRO is associated with Super C, Jean Coutu and Brunet.
