The rescue took place in torrential rain on Wednesday in central Nakhon Nayok province when a one-year-old elephant fell into a drainage hole along the road. The desperate mother guarded her cub but soon felt ill. Rescuers used a truck-mounted hoist to pull the nut out before performing simultaneous CPR. Immediately after that, they took care of the baby.
The rescue had to reassure the mother because she would not allow the baby elephant to be picked up with her body over the hole. The animal tried in every way to save him, but could not do anything for him. Arrived in safety, the young animal clung to the mother’s breast and slowly the elephant woke up too, only to walk away with its baby shortly afterwards.
