According to the Polish operator PERN, a leak occurred in the Russian “Druzhba” oil pipeline. This was discovered last night, the company announced this morning. The cause of the leak is currently unknown.
It was discovered on a section of the line about 70 kilometers from the central Polish city of Plock. Oil flows from Russia to Europe through the pipeline. According to Polish information, this is probably not sabotage, but accidental damage. The exact cause is not yet known. Pumps in the damaged pipeline were stopped immediately.
More recently, leaks in the “Nord Stream 1” and “2” pipelines in the Baltic Sea have caused a stir. Acts of sabotage are suspected here – the West and Russia are suspicious of each other.
PERN: The second line is working normally
The second line of the pipeline is said to be working normally. This also applies to other areas of the PERN infrastructure. “Right now, all PERN services (technical, operational, factory firefighters and environmental protection) work according to the algorithms provided for this type of situation,” said the operator.
The “Druzhba” pipeline is one of the largest in the world and supplies Russian oil to large parts of Central Europe. In Belarus, the gas pipeline is divided into a southern and northern branch. The affected northern branch has a capacity of up to one million barrels (159 million litres) per day.
