How high will the Seahawks pick from Wilson Trade to Broncos?

There are many factors that go into why Russell Wilson’s Seahawks trade to the Broncos went great in Seattle and, well, just the opposite in Denver.

A Denver perspective of the Seahawks trade from Russell Wilson to Broncos

Brandon Stokleya former NFL star receiver who has spent time with both the Broncos and Seahawks now hosts Stokley and Zach for The Fan 104.3 FM in Denver, a Seattle Sports sister station, so he’s handling the whole situation with Wilson this season saw up close.

“It’s been bad and we’re starting here with an investigation of every Seattle Seahawks — (Coach) Pete Carroll, (General Manager) John Schneider,” Stokley joked as he joined Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk on Tuesday. “You all sold us a lemon.”

Stokley was going through a list when Mike Salk asked him what the worst part about the Wilson trade was.

“Oh my god, everything,” Stokley replied. “I mean, he played terribly. They gave him a huge contract so it’s not like you can really move away from him here in the next few years. You’re probably stuck for three years. …And you traded in a few picks from the first round.”

And that’s the most interesting part of all for the Seahawks and their fans, because the second of those first rounds comes in 2023, which means it ties into how Denver finishes this season. Currently, the Broncos are 3-8, which not only keeps them bottom in the AFC West but also in line for the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. And with the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears both 3-9, it won’t take much for Denver to drop further down the standings.

“It could be #2 overall this year, folks,” Stokley told Salk and Brock Huard, his former Indianapolis Colts teammate. “I mean, that’s a big deal. And so everything is combined in one. It was just a complete disaster this year.”

As if things couldn’t get any better for the Seahawks in this conversation, Stokley expects the Broncos to battle the Rams for the No. 2 pick. The Rams are, of course, a rival to NFC West and won the Super Bowl last year, so they had quite a downfall themselves. And like Denver, they don’t own their first-round pick in 2023 as they go to Detroit as part of the 2021 trade that brought quarterback Matthew Stafford to LA.

“They play in December,” Stokley said of the Broncos and Rams. “That could be the loser of this game, who gets the No. 2 pick… I think it’s the two or three pick (which Denver will get Seattle). I mean it will definitely be a top 5 pick. They (the Broncos) still got the Chiefs twice – I don’t expect them to win any of those football games. You got the Chargers late in the season. Maybe they’ll win another game. I just don’t see them winning two more games. So you’re bound to have a top 3, top 4 pick.
