“After nothing could be found on land, holes were cut in the ice of a pond on the property yesterday and divers found Dr. Payan’s body under the ice.

“Detectives believe that Dr. Payan passed away before he was reported missing due to weather conditions on the day he left his home and the fact that he was in the water.

“We would like to thank the Jackson County Dive Team, Michigan Search and Rescue, J-DART, neighbors and the public for their support of this incident. Our thoughts are with Dr. Payan’s family and friends.’

According to a family friend, Nicole Keiser, Dr. Payan, who worked as a psychiatrist at Henry Ford Hospital, delivered his dogs to her around 8 a.m. Thursday and was scheduled to pick them up later that evening.

She added that it was “uncharacteristic” for him to drive home without picking up his dogs.

“Bolek dropped his dogs off at 8am. He told us that he will pick her up at 6:30 a.m., he has already fed her and that he will feed her again if he picks her up at 6:30 a.m. that evening,” she told WILX News.

“For his truck to be here without coming to the house to pick up the dogs would be out of character. Something happened and I don’t know what.”

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy and toxicology testing.
