Iran refused to make concessions in nuclear deal

Tehran, 28.12. (Prensa Latina) The speaker of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and National Security, Abolfazl Amoei, today denied his country’s intention to make concessions in the nuclear talks.

Amoei said the revival of the joint comprehensive action plan can be achieved, but the outcome depends on the pragmatism of other parties involved.

In his opinion, internal events in the United States, including the election, have distanced Washington from the talks and impeded their progress.

Negotiations were never ended through mediation, sending of letters and unofficial draft texts, but Europeans’ analysis of internal Iranian events is imprecise, he stressed.

Two days ago, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani denounced the White House’s conflicting positions on the negotiation process and the lack of positive steps towards its conclusion.

In 2015, after years of tension, Iran struck a nuclear pact with the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia and China, in which it agreed to limit its uranium enrichment under the supervision of UN inspectors in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

In 2018, then-US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal and vowed to negotiate a stronger one, but that didn’t happen as coercive measures against the Persian nation have increased in recent years.

However, the Iranian government insists on its willingness to go ahead with the deal as long as the parties involved abide by the agreement.
