Environment and safety, key themes of Lula and Lasso’s meeting

Brasilia, 2 January (EFE).- Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received his Ecuadorian counterpart Guillermo Lasso on Monday, with whom he discussed issues related to the environment, security and strengthening bilateral relations for Brazil, benefiting both nations.

“Today I met with the President of Ecuador @LassoGuillermo for the first time. We spoke about the desire to strengthen ties between our countries for the benefit of our peoples,” Lula said in a message published on Twitter.

According to the Ecuadorian president, at the meeting with the progressive leader, both pledged to increase joint work to fight cross-border crimes and improve the security of the two nations.

“Likewise, we emphasize the importance of protecting the Amazon, the lungs of the planet and an important axis of our government plan,” Lasso said on the same social network.

The impact of mining has also been raised by the heads of state, and according to Lasso, there will be a concerted effort to restore areas affected by resource extraction.

Lasso was one of the twenty leaders attending this Sunday’s inauguration of Lula, who dedicated the first day of government to strengthening external relations, with a day of meetings with several of the leaders who welcomed him on Sunday during the accompanied the inauguration.
