Quebec native Samuel Gauthier has been missing since the night of December 10th while he was in Port-Cartier to help a friend. The 28-year-old was supposed to take the bus back the next day, but never came.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the father of two children, aged 3 and 5, was seen on rue Cartier in Sept-Îles around 2am on December 11. This is the latest information that the police have been able to verify.

“I imagined my life like a fairy tale. Having a family was my greatest gift in life and a big part of that has just been taken from me,” says Carolanne Dufour, Mr Gauthier’s wife.

Samuel Gauthier's wife, Carolanne Dufour, is still hoping to find her husband alive, more than a month after his disappearance.

“All I want is to have answers…” adds Ms. Dufour between two sobs, she who intends to lead beaten in the coming days to the forest sectors of the two cities where he would have been seen.

Bad society

Although the SQ does not confirm this information, his wife says Samuel Gauthier may have been involved in a drug case during his trip to the North Shore.

Hoping to make some money after losing his job, he initially went there to help friends close a shop for the season and renovate a house.

But along the way he would have met people who are not very popular with people of any standing in the region, explains Ms Dufour, drawing on the account of the friend who met Mr Gauthier just before his disappearance.

“Samuel is not a criminal, so I believe he was manipulated in a certain way. But as it progresses, the hope of finding him alive dwindles…” regrets his wife.

Protect your children

Since the disappearance of her lover, Ms Dufour has done everything she can to keep her cool and stay strong for her children Landon and Abie, aged 3 and 5.

“They start to wonder why their father isn’t coming home. It’s so hard to live, I’m trying to find the right words…” says the 31-year-old.

Ms Dufour went to the North Shore to put up posters in hot sectors of the investigation in recent days, recalling offering $5,000 for information to find her lover.

“I need to know the truth so my kids know that he didn’t leave them, that he loved them with all his heart,” she says.
