(Valcartier) A 5-year-old child died late Friday afternoon as a result of serious injuries allegedly caused by a wall bed in a hotel room at Village Vacances Valcartier in the Capitale-Nationale region.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), first responders were called to a shelter on Boulevard Valcartier in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier around 5:15 p.m.
The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. “Unfortunately his condition worsened and the child died as a result of his injuries,” said SQ spokesman Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.
Because this was an incident that resulted in the death of a child under the age of 6, the investigation was automatically transferred to the SQ's Major Crimes Unit.
The circumstances of this event had yet to be clarified on Friday. Witnesses were encountered and a crime scene had to be examined by technicians from the forensic identification service, said Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.
The forensic medicine department was also informed.
