A brief stint in prison for Alex Galchenyuk

Ice hockey player Alex Galchenyuk, despite being charged with disruptive behavior towards a police officer, will do pretty well if he only had to serve two days in jail.

Athletic reporter Katie Strang confirmed on Monday that she had received court documents showing five charges had been dropped but the American pleaded guilty to one charge of making threats.

Therefore, Galchenyuk was given a 30-day prison sentence. However, one of those days would already have expired for time served and 27 others will be suspended if he has completed an alcohol-related sobriety program and has not used or possessed alcohol or drugs for 12 months.

The former Montreal Canadiens caused a stir in July when he threatened to kill a police officer and his family in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 29-year-old forward, who was then signed with the Coyotes, said he would “cut out” the man and “put an end to his bloodline”.

Ashamed of his behavior, Galchenyuk entered the National Hockey League’s Player Assistance Program. He also reportedly apologized to the police officer.

His contract has been terminated by the Coyotes and I heard last time he has agreed to a one-year deal with Continental League side Spartak Moscow. Galchenyuk played 11 seasons on the Bettman Tour, playing for six different teams.
