A cyclist jumps onto a moving bus that lands in a ditch

A school minibus went off the road in Lac-Supérieur in the Laurentians and ended up in a ditch after a cyclist jumped on the vehicle’s running board while driving.

Police officers from the Laurentides Regional County Municipality of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) intervened on Lake Harel Road around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A dozen students were on board, but none were injured.

The bus driver said he first saw the cyclist in the middle of the lane and, seeing that he didn’t swerve to let him pass, slowed his vehicle.

Arriving at the level of the cyclist, he jumped onto the step of the bus and then opened the door. “In shock, the driver swerved and steered the bus into the ditch. The incident occurred at low speed and no one was injured,” the SQ said in a statement on Thursday.

After certain checks, the man received fines totaling $3,134 and 16 penalty points for committing a life-threatening act and standing on the running board of a moving vehicle.
