The Essentials An Irish woman has the whites of her eyes tattooed in blue and purple. She is now losing her eyesight.
Anaya Peterson, mother of five, wanted to emulate her role model, Australian model Amber Luke, and got an eyeball tattoo. However, the 32-year-old is now slowly losing her sight, reports the New York Post.
In July 2020, the resident of Belfast, Northern Ireland got a blue tattoo on her right eye. She has no complications other than a few headaches. She then decided to repeat the operation and dyed her left eyeball purple in December of the same year. “In the beginning, I just wanted to get an eye tattoo in case I went blind,” she says. “My daughter asked me not to do it, I should have listened to her”.
Nevertheless, a lot goes wrong in August 2021. She wakes up one day with incredibly swollen eyelids from a possible reaction to the ink. She goes to the hospital, where doctors give her drugs intravenously for three days.
“I can’t see facial features from afar (…) I’m about to go blind,” she says. “Unfortunately, the tattoo artist went too deep into my eyeball.”
