The previously unknown existence “within the great pyramid of Cheops” of another corridor, “a tunnel, 9 meters long and “2.10 wide”, which is “behind the main entrance”, announced the Egyptian archaeologist star Zahi Hawass at a press conference held in Cairo to illustrate the results of the “Scanpyramids” project. “I believe that what we have today could be the most important discovery of the century,” said the former Egyptian antiquities minister, anticipating announcements from Nature and Ndt & E International magazines expected today.

“We believe something is hidden beneath this area,” Hawass said. Assuming that “this is just my opinion”, Hawass argued that “the tomb of Cheops should be under this tunnel”.

The former minister made the remarks at a press conference at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo.
