A special controller for Samsung's Gaming Hub – Journal du geek

The new controller, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Xbox One, will be available later this year for around fifty dollars. If the controller is very similar to generic models, you can't go wrong with the obvious inscription on the back: “Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub”!

A controller designed for video games on connected TVs

This is the first product in this new program, which aims to increase the number of accessories designed specifically for Samsung connected TVs. The manufacturer assures that this certification guarantees the quality, compatibility and security of the products and thus promises “the best possible game streaming experience”.

Mike Lucero, head of product management for Samsung Gaming Hub, is committed to giving gamers more choice on behalf of the company, starting with PDP's Replay Wireless Controller. This controller is compatible with most Bluetooth devices, including PCs and Android devices, although consoles and iPhones may require a special license.

The PDP-developed controller promises up to 40 hours of battery life per charge, a 30-foot low-latency Bluetooth connection, a dedicated button for the gaming hub, and volume controls for the TV. It is currently available for pre-order on the PDP website and Amazon and will soon be available at Best Buy in the US.

The Replay controller features a rechargeable battery via USB-C and is optimized for a low latency Bluetooth connection, reducing input lag. In addition, it is equipped with two adjustable paddles on the back according to the user's needs.

With the video game industry worth $225 billion, TV manufacturers like Samsung, LG and Sony are trying to position themselves as key players in the space. Samsung launched its Gaming Hub in 2022, an interface to connect to game streaming services such as Nvidia's GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming. LG and Sony also tout their televisions as ideal for video games.

Samsung's Gaming Hub works similarly to the Netflix app for TVs, but instead of streaming movies, it streams video games. The game quality depends on the internet connection. Slow bandwidth results in lower image quality and poor latency. Although game streaming isn't as good as with a dedicated console or PC, the overall experience remains solid and satisfying. Samsung introduced this gaming hub accessory licensing program during CES in hopes of attracting accessory makers.
