Route 117 was closed for several hours on Tuesday in the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve. The Sûreté du Québec reports that one person was killed in the collision, which occurred just before 9 a.m. at kilometer 343 near the Le Domaine rest area.
According to initial information, the driver of a semi-trailer whose trailer slipped on a curve collided with another semi-trailer that was traveling in the opposite direction at the same time, explains Sergeant Marc Tessier, information officer for the Quebec Sûreté.
The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. Marc Tessier states that the driver of the other semi-trailer was not injured.
As of early Tuesday evening, Route 117 had still not reopened in the area. The investigators first had to analyze the scene of the accident.
There is also diesel coming from one of the vehicles on the road. There will still be a lot of work to do before proceeding with the partial opening of Route 117, said Sergeant Tessier, who gave an interview about the accident to the program “It's Worth Coming Back” (New Window) late Tuesday afternoon.
The road has been reopened to traffic and the investigation is ongoing.
Two people were injured in another accident on Tuesday morning at the intersection of lines 113 and 117 near Louvicourt.
