The American star suffered a brain aneurysm at his home in Los Angeles on February 18. He died in his sleep at a hospital in Burbank, California on Friday, his manager Charles Lago confirmed.
Sizemore rose to fame with acclaimed performances in Natural Born Killers and the cult crime thriller Heat.
However, a severe drug addiction, abuse allegations and multiple run-ins with the law devastated his career, dragging him onto the streets and sending him to prison.
As the global wave of the #metoo movement peaked in late 2017, Sizemore was also suspected of sexual misconduct with an 11-year-old Utah girl in 2003. He called the allegations “very disturbing” and claimed he would never touch a child inappropriately. Charges were not brought.
Despite his numerous legal troubles, Sizemore has appeared in the credits of dozens of film and television productions, although his career never regained its former momentum.
Aside from Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor, most of his roles in the 21st century were in underappreciated, low-budget productions in which he continued to act, making him famous, rugged, and tough.
In recent years Sizemore has had roles in several science fiction, horror and action films.
He is survived by his 17-year-old twin sons, Jayden and Jagger, and his brother Paul, who were all by his side at the time of his death.
