After a tequila party, she smashes a “Drink or Drive” sign

A 27-year-old Texan woman pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after breaking a traffic sign during a drunken night in California.

Clarissa Hamendez had more than one drink down her nose when she got behind the wheel of her Land Rover in Palm Spring before crashing head-on into an illuminated “Don't Drink & Drive” electric sign.

The situation could have taken a dramatic turn as the driver of the vehicle narrowly avoided a group of pedestrians, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.

Police officers at a nearby checkpoint quickly responded to the scene and found the woman behind the wheel, completely intoxicated and barely able to stand, according to the New York tabloid.

“Her eyes were bloodshot, red and watery, and she had difficulty speaking,” a police document said, adding that the young woman “constantly rocked back and forth.”

When questioned about her drinking, Ms. Hernandez, who allegedly admitted to drinking tequila barely 10 minutes before her encounter with the panel, was sentenced to three years' probation, it said.
