An employee died at a US airport on Dec. 31 after being sucked into a plane’s engine, the New York Post reported. The incident happened at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama.

According to a statement to Insider, the worker was sucked into the engine of the Embraer 170 at Montgomery Regional Airport around 3 p.m. Saturday, where the parking brake was adjusted, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

The plane was parked after a flight from Dallas, but unfortunately one of its engines was still running. The staff was included in the engine. The victim worked for Piedmont Airlines.

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of a team member at AA/Piedmont Airlines,” the airport’s executive director Wade Davis said in a statement. He added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.”

American Airlines said in a statement it was devastated by the news. “We are focused on making sure everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time,” the company told the New York Post.

However, the NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration are conducting the investigation.
