Paul shared several photos on Instagram and shared a long, heartfelt message breaking the news.

He wrote, “It is with a heavy heartbreak that me and Alan have had to make the hardest decision of making our final act of love and letting our Bev go.”

He continued, “She was the best companion I could hope for. She has been my rock and savior on many, many occasions and I cannot tell you how much we will miss her.

“We spent her last afternoon together in the garden of my new home, laughing, chatting and remembering how much joy she brought into our lives and that’s exactly what I wanted her to feel and share.

“For all the pet owners out there, give them a kiss and hold them and tell them you love them. RIP my angel.’

He finished the caption: “Love always, (strict) daddy.”

Addressing the post’s comments, the TV presenter added several red hearts.

British Got Talent judge Amanda Holden also wrote a sad face emoji.

And Alan himself posted some heartbroken emojis in the comments.

Alan and Paul married in 2018 and his close friend Adele was ordained so she could perform the ceremony.

The couple’s split was announced in January, with a spokesman saying in a statement: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce that they are separating.

“They made the difficult decision together and amicably to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy be respected at this sensitive time.’

Alan previously spoke about dogs Bev and Joyce, telling Now To Love the Foirmwers spoiled their pooches badly and often took them on road trips to the Brighton seafront.

“Our days revolve around the dogs,” he said at the time. “We’re like those parents who move across the country so that their children can go to the best school.”

Paul and his mother act in the show Yap, Yap, Yap, a lot Alan is his delight.

He said: “I told them that if they want all these beautiful things to continue – fancy food, beautiful shoes, mom’s sun room – then they have to be part of my show!”
