In doing so, he dropped Babe Ruth, who fell to third place in RBIs in major league history, by two fewer. Hank Aaron is still number one with 2,297.

The St. Louis Cardinals legend had his smash hit in the sixth inning – 24. of the season and 703rd career – and gave the team a 2-0 lead.

However, Pujols’ goal wasn’t enough as the Pirates returned to a 3-2 win.

The crowd favorites won in a very special way. Ke’Bryan Hayes, Miguel Andujar, Rodolfo Castro and Oneil Cruz, tied 2-2 in their ninth round of racquets, were all given free passes, one in a row, allowing the former to go around the track that way.

Bryan Reynolds and Jack Suwinski each drove one run to the Pirates victory.

Yankees a game short without a run or a hit

The New York Yankees and their starting pitcher Luis Severino have long believed in the possibility of a game without a run or hit, but the Texas Rangers ended that possibility late. The Bronx Bombers still won 3-1 at Globe Life Field.

After seven innings, Severino was still perfect, having walked just one and beaten seven opponents. However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone preferred to retire his shooter early in the eighth inning, sending his reliever Miguel Castro to the mound instead. The latter recorded one out before losing the game with no run or hit.

Offensively for the visitors, Aaron Judge was unable to hit a 62nd long ball and single-handedly rank first in history for most home runs by an American League player in a single season. Instead, it was Giancarlo Stanton and Marwin Gonzalez, each having a solo homer while Kyle Higashioka drove in the other heat.
