Alison Hammond ‘first choice to replace Holly Willoughby this morning if she ever steps down’

Alison Hammond is “placed at the top of the pile to replace Holly Willoughby by ITV bosses This Morning – if the host ever steps down”.

Alison Hammond is reportedly the first choice to take over Holly Willoughby This Morning if she ever steps down.

The bubbly presenter, 48, already co-hosts the daytime TV show alongside Dermot O’Leary on Fridays but could be headed for a promotion if Holly, 42, jumps ship.

While bosses seem keen on keeping longtime presenter Holly at the helm of the ship, there’s a plan just in case.

According to The Mirror, bosses have been talking about who to call up should they lose Holly, describing Alison as an “asset” for the channel.

A source told the publication: “ITV bosses are clear they want Holly to return to This Morning next year. But while a question mark hangs over her future, there have been talks of who might step in if she decides to leave.

“At the top of that list is Alison. They have gone from being a safe couple to being a real asset to the channel,” they explained.

The source went on to say that the channel is also looking into other pairings for Alison as Dermot, including with another show favorite – Josie Gibson.

The insider added numerous substitutes would be tested should Holly ever leave, comparing the case to when Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain and a number of combined hosting duos being tested.

Web has contacted a spokesman for ITV for comment.

Earlier this month it was reported bosses were worried Holly would be leaving the show after the host thought the Queuegate backlash was “mishandled”.

The TV personality and her co-host Philip Schofield came under fire last year when they were accused of having “VIP access” to submit “past the in-state Queen” and skip the line, a claim which the Stars and ITV have both contested.

According to a new report, Holly was “devastated by the public reception and the broadcaster’s “decision to remain silent.”

The station is said to be working on a “shock package” for the presenter to keep her with the station.

While a spokeswoman recently confirmed that she has “no plans” to leave the show.
