US actress Amber Heard announced Monday that she has achieved one approval in the trial facing her ex-partner Johnny Depp for defamation, in which she appealed after her conviction.
Amber Heard released a statement via her social media, explaining that she will not be pursuing the appeal after losing the defamation lawsuit against her ex-husband. Johnny Depp.
According to Depp’s attorneys, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez, Heard will finally pay the actor $1 million instead of what a jury ruled in early June, which found that Heard defamed Depp in his op-ed piece on domestic violence for the Washington Post and had sentenced you to Pay her ex-husband $10 million in damages.
“After much deliberation, I have made a very difficult decision to resolve the defamation case,” the statement begins on Instagram. “It’s important for me to say that I never chose that. I stood up for my truth and as a result my life as I knew it was destroyed. The slander I’ve faced on social media is an amplified version of how women fall victim again when they speak up. Now I finally have the opportunity to emancipate myself from something I tried to leave more than six years ago, on terms I can accept.
He added: “I have made no admissions. This is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags regarding my voice moving forward.”
He also took aim at the American legal system, claiming to have “lost faith” after his “unprotected testimony was for entertainment and fuel for social media“.
And he added that in the United States he had exhausted almost all of his legal remedies before and during a trial he says he was in “Set in a space where copious amounts of direct evidence supporting my testimony has been excluded, and where popularity and power mattered more than reason and process. I was exposed to a kind Humiliation that I just can’t live anymore. Even if my US appeal is successful, the best outcome would be a new trial, which would require a new jury to re-examine the evidence. I just can’t go through it a third time“.
Instead, in the UK, where he appeared before a judge, he spoke kindly of the judiciary and his allegation was “corroborated by a sound, impartial and fair system in which I was protected from having the worst moments of my testimony in front of me of media, of communication in the world, and where the court found I was the object of domestic and sexual violence.”
The actress condemned, “I can’t afford it risk an impossible calculation that is not only financial but also psychological, physical and emotional. Women shouldn’t face abuse or bankruptcy for speaking their truth, but unfortunately that’s not uncommon.”

“In solving this case, I also choose the freedom to devote my time to the work that has helped me heal after my divorce; Work that exists in settings where I feel seen, heard, believed, and know I can make a difference. I am not threatened, discouraged, or prevented from speaking the truth by what happened. No one can and no one will take that away from me. My voice will always be the most valuable asset I have.”
In closing, she thanked her appeals and original process team “for their tireless hard work” and everyone who supported her. “I turn my attention to the growing support I have felt and seen publicly in the months since the trial and the efforts that have been made to show solidarity with my story. Every survivor knows that often the only relief is the ability to tell their story, and I cannot find enough words to tell you how hopeful your belief in me is, not just for me but for all of you.“.
