An octogenarian who was hit by a driving school in Montreal

An 83-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Montreal Monday morning.

At around 9 a.m., two pedestrians, an 83-year-old man and a woman of about the same age, were hit by a driving school car on the corner of Sherbrooke Street and Guy Street in downtown Montreal. According to spokesman for the City of Montreal Police Department (SPVM), Raphaël Bergeron, no student at the driving school would have been involved in the collision.

According to initial findings, the two pedestrians would have crossed before the red light on Sherbrooke and would have been hit by the car traveling south on the Côte-des-Neiges towards Guy Street.

The man was thrown to the ground and suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to a hospital. At the time of transport he was conscious and breathing.

The woman fell to the ground, but suffered only minor injuries and is not life-threatening.

Investigators went to the scene to determine the cause of the accident.

The road was closed to traffic around 11 a.m. and its reopening depends on the health of the octogenarian, explained the SPVM.
