Jessica Simpson says she is “angry” and “defensive” over the comments she’s received about her now-viral ad for Pottery Barn.
The Newlyweds graduate posted a video of her passionately singing along to her song “Party of One,” with the emphasis on the line “I don’t give af-k about you.”
“I had to be in my studio today because this is where I’m grounding and healing,” she began her lengthy Instagram message.
“As much as I’ve learned to tune out destructive noise… people’s comments and judgments can still hurt deeply with their incessant nagging, ‘You’ll never be good enough.'”
Simpson, 42, noted that she’s been five years sober and that journey has taught her that she can survive any fight that comes her way – no matter what trolls say.
“I’m capable of pretty much anything that’s important enough for me to focus on,” she continued. “I am present. I am deeply inspired. I am determined. I am honest. I care about other people.”
“The most important thing I’ve learned in the past 5 years without alcohol being a safeguard against escapism is that I CAN AND WILL ALWAYS get through it,” she wrote on Instagram.jessicasimpson/Instagram
The “Irresistible” singer said she can use her voice and power to turn her insecurities into “compassion for the wayward hate that some people so effortlessly blurt out with such intensity on social media, or the media in general.” Text.
“I woke up simultaneously anxious and insecure, but also angry and defensive — like some of you,” she shared. “I know what works for me and that is to let go and just sing while looking straight in the mirror, straight into my eyes to really see and understand myself. I can connect to my heartbeat. I am stable and strong. I’m at home.”

Simpson ended her message with advice for her followers: “Live in your dreams and go through them. Don’t give up because someone else did. Be honest with yourself.”

In April, Simpson also worried fans when she shuffled through an ad for Flonase.
Simpson wrote candidly about her struggles with addiction in her 2020 memoir Open Book, revealing that she once “killed herself” with an addiction to pills and alcohol.
The fashion designer shares three children – Maxwell, 10, Ace, 9, and Birdie, 3 – with husband Eric Johnson, whom she married in July 2014.
