Archaeologists found 1,500yearold skeletons buried in unusual ways. The find was made in Wales and, according to studies, dates back to the early Middle Ages. It is a medieval cemetery with around 80 graves.

The discovery revealed that there are at least 80 graves in which several bodies are buried. The most fascinating were the positions that were considered unusual.
Skeletons in unusual ways
The discovery caught the attention of people around the world. The British newspaper The Guardian conducted an interview with the researchers who found the skeletons buried in an unusual way. They noticed that the remains were lying on their sides, on their backs and even in a crouched position. And not in the most conventional way, chest up.
According to Andy Seaman, professor of early medieval archeology at Cardiff University, this was not the first time skeletons had been found in this way. There are other records of human remains in unusual locations.
What caught our attention this time was their numbers. “Other similar sites have bodies in such locations, but given the number of graves we have examined so far, there appears to be a high proportion,” he told The Guardian.
According to the professor, the positions could be a sign of a burial rite that was carried out around 1,500 years ago. He also pointed out that “all the crouched skeletons lie on their right sides and face south, so there is a connection between them.”
The exploration of the medieval cemetery began a little over two years ago. Archaeologists found evidence from the 6th and 7th centuries. Animal bones were also found, as well as glass cups that may have come from France and a strange bone peg used to tune rustic musical instruments.
