“Aren’t you exhausted?”: Shooting survivors call for change

A mother who reportedly survived a shooting with her son this summer gave a heartfelt shout to a crowd of reporters who had gathered.

“Aren’t you hiding from the shooting? We all need to urge lawmakers to make changes now or it will keep happening and it will be your next children because it is only a matter of time,” Ashbey Beasley said emotionally, according to a video reported by The Guardian.

After a press conference with the Nashville Metropolitan Police, the Illinois woman went behind the microphones to call for legislation aimed at curbing the spread of guns in the territory and protecting young people.

While vacationing in Tennessee to visit her sister-in-law, she said she was a survivor of a shooting in July while she was with her son.

“Gun violence is the number one killer of children and young people, even more so than cars. These shootings will continue until our lawmakers step in and pass legislation to make guns safe,” the woman continued.

Since the July shooting, she has met with more than 130 lawmakers to put pressure on Washington, she said.

“How can this still happen? How come our children are still dying and why are we abandoning them?” she insisted loudly.
