A Chinese team of scientists discovered a 102.3-meter-tall tree in southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region, media reported today, which has become the tallest in Asia.
According to the CGTN channel, it is a giant cypress tree (Cupressus torulosa) growing in the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon Nature Reserve that was found by researchers from Peking University this month.
Using drones and radar, the professionals examined the vegetation and confirmed the height of the bush.
This task also allowed them to confirm the existence of another 25 that were more than 95 meters in size, making this area now considered the area with the highest density of large trees anywhere in the country and on the continent.
China announced last year that its tallest tree is an Abies ernestiivar salouenensis, 83.4 meters tall, around 380 years old and also found in Tibet.
