ASU gets crushed at home by Fresno State, injury bug again – Arizona Sports

The Arizona State Sun Devils fell to Fresno State 29-0 in their final non-conference game of the year on Saturday at Mountain America Stadium.

Backup quarterback Trenton Bourguet, who started in place of the injured Jaden Rashada, suffered an apparent left leg injury on the game’s second drive and did not return.

Drew Pyne, dealing with an injury of his own, was pushed to center and was under pressure on virtually every snap. He also appeared to be struggling with the previous hamstring injury that kept him from playing in the first two weeks of the season.

Fourth-string quarterback Jacob Conover finally relieved Pyne and took over a game that seemed out of reach at halftime.

This was the Sun Devils’ first shutout at home since November 12, 1988, a 50-0 loss to USC.

ASU mustered just 230 yards of total offense and had virtually no running or passing in all four quarters. The team also turned the ball over a whopping eight times.

Mikey Keene, a local high school junior, was a masterful player for Fresno State, throwing for 281 yards on 32 of 49 passes and two touchdowns.

The win over ASU extends the Bulldogs’ winning streak to 12 games, the second longest in the country behind the Georgia Bulldogs’ 20 games.

Unfortunately, the road doesn’t get any easier for the Sun Devils as potential No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans visit Tempe on Saturday.
