Ramzan Kadyrov, President of Chechnya, here in May 2023. His son has been appointed head of his security service.
INTERNATIONAL – It’s quite an advertisement. Adam Kadyrov, the son of Chechnya’s authoritarian leader Ramzan Kadyrov, an ally of Vladimir Putin, was named presidential security chief on Sunday, November 5. However, he is only 15 years old and will celebrate his 16th birthday on November 24th.
The information was shared by Chechen Health Minister Adam Alkanov via Telegram. “I sincerely congratulate (…) Adam Kadyrov on his appointment to the responsible post of head of the security department of the head of the Chechen Republic! ” he wrote in a post discovered by Russian news agency Ria Novosti.

“Despite his young age, Adam Kadyrov already has extensive practical experience, but above all the strong spirit of a true and courageous warrior. I am absolutely sure that no one and nothing will stop him from defending his father,” the priest added, never singing his praises.
A “Hero of Chechnya” on the same journey as his father
This new promotion follows three awards received in one month. On October 6, he was named a “Hero of Chechnya.” A few days later, AFP adds, he received the second-highest award from Tatarstan, another Muslim-majority Russian republic, according to Chechen officials quoted by Russian media.
Finally, on October 25, he received the highest award of the Russian Muslim region of Karachayevo-Cherkessia to recognize his “personal contribution to the development of inter-ethnic and inter-regional unity and the strengthening of traditional Islamic values.”
All of these tributes followed the release of a video in late September showing Adam Kadyrov beating a prisoner accused of publicly burning the Koran. Nikita Zhuravel, 19, was arrested in Volvograd, western Russia, in May and then transferred to Chechnya, Courrier International reports. As images of the beating were broadcast, Ramzan Kadyrov said he was “proud” of his son.
Adam Kadyrov seems to be following the same path as his father. As Courrier International points out, before becoming head of state, Ramzan Kadyrov was also head of his own father’s security service when he was president of Chechnya between 2003 and 2004.
