According to the affected community, there was an attempted arson attack on a house with Jewish institutions in Berlin last night.
The Kahal Adass Yisrael community wrote on Twitter (X) that unknown people threw two Molotov cocktails from the street towards their community center on Brunnenstrasse in Berlin-Mitte. Upon request, police confirmed an incident.
According to “Tagesspiegel” there were no injuries. The incendiary bottles were functional and burned. However, the building did not catch fire because the attackers did not hit it.
Police security guards were at the scene, but were unable to prevent the attack or detain the perpetrators. According to the report, the building houses several Jewish institutions, including a Talmud Torah school and a synagogue.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) condemned the attacks on Jewish institutions and violent riots as “inhumane, disgusting and must not be tolerated.”
The Central Council of Jews also strongly condemned the attempted arson attack. “This arson attack is the consistent continuation of Hamas’ glorification of terror on German streets. The ‘Day of Wrath’ is not just a phrase. It is psychological terror that results in concrete attacks.”
