Austria, cable car accident in Tyrol: four seriously injured

A cable car crashed in the Hochoetz ski area in Tyrol, Austria. The four people inside were seriously injured. According to police, the accident could have been caused by a collision with a tree. Authorities said it did not appear to be a technical defect. Rescue workers responded to the scene of the accident and helicopters were also deployed. Nothing is yet known about the identity of the injured.

A spokesman for the Hochoetz ski area told Bild: “The accident occurred between supports eight and nine, where the gondola lift crashed. Several people have already been transported away.” Rescuers are still on site. The accident site is in difficult terrain and can only be reached on foot. The affected cable car was the only cable car occupied at the time of the accident and no one was stuck.
