The film was critically acclaimed, grossed more than $1.4 billion worldwide and became part of popular culture. All this happened thanks to two people: the director Greta Gerwig and her protagonist and producer Margot Robbie. Without them, the list of Oscar nominees left a bitter taste among the film's fans.

Let's be fair, Barbie received 8 2024 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, which is incredible in itself. But it makes no sense to praise so many aspects of a film and not celebrate the very vision that lay behind those rosy backdrops and made the film truly stand out from the norm. Greta Gerwig's nomination for best director was already considered a given, but was not included in the final list.
