BBB 23: Gabriel has a fatphobic speech just before his election

Just before he was announced as the new BBB 23 entrant, voted by the public with 64.60% of the vote, Gabriel engaged in a dialogue in the glass house exposing the sad but not unprecedented fat phobia that in reality occurs.

The participant, who is considered “handsome” and “taker” after revealing that he was already in a relationship with Anitta, Gabi Lopes and Luisa Sonza said that he is not always goodlooking because he is already fat.

In the conversation, he also asks the “Adms” to show a bold photo of him and to do a “before and after”. He still says he “ate junk” and “ate shit,” justifying the 45pound heavier weight than he does today.

All this talk and justification for the “lack of beauty” when I was younger triggers fat people, and it awoke in this columnist too. Fat people don’t eat shit. Fat people can be beautiful, and they are. Fat people work out and they like it.

It’s not new that I hear about big friends who believe they can’t be selected for reality shows because of their “profile” or that they wouldn’t go because they don’t have the “guts” to be comfortable in the pool to feel or in situations where the body would be more exposed.

The same courage many fat people say they don’t have was what met contempt for Amanda Souza of Casamento das Cegas Brasil 2 for her performance down the aisle. She was the first woman to be rejected by a partner after the blind call in the Brazilian version. A fat woman.

Having to contend with fat phobia is nothing new on reality shows. We have had several cases. For example, until recently, fat people weren’t considered a “good profile” for makeup reality shows like On Vacation with Ex and so on.

Launching a fatphobia issue of BBB right away doesn’t bode well, and this columnist is hoping Gabriel shows a lot more than that on the show.

It’s not cool to have to deal with a topic on an entertainment show that has so many triggers.
