Beijing is further tightening protection measures

Concerned about the spread of the corona virus in Beijing, the city administration has reinforced measures to fight the virus again. After the five-day holiday around May 1, everyone would have to show a negative CoV test if they wanted to “go to public places or use public transport,” officials in the Chinese capital said today.

For activities such as sporting events and group travel, a negative CoV test, which should not be older than 48 hours, will also be required in the future, as well as proof of “complete vaccine protection”.

Free trials from Tuesday

The administration had already ordered negative CoV testing for everyone who wanted to visit public areas such as shopping malls, stores or tourist attractions on their days off from April 30 to May 4. Now the arrangement has been expanded. According to authorities, all tests will be free from Tuesday.

About 150 buildings were isolated recently in Beijing, after about a hundred CoV infections were detected in a week. Almost all 22 million people need to be tested for the virus. Exhibitions, performances and wedding parties were canceled and sports facilities also had to close.

Most infections continue in Shanghai

According to the National Health Commission, the number of new infections in Beijing today rose to 54. Nationwide, more than 10,700 new cases of infection were reported in 24 hours, most of them in the economic metropolis of Shanghai.

The number of new infections is now decreasing again. Today there were 10,100 cases, almost half of the daily new infections that were recorded in early April.
