US President Joe Biden committed a faux pas this Friday.
During a speech at the National Safer Communities Summit, the US President ended the speech with “God Save the Queen”, which loosely translates to “God save the Queen”.
The moment went viral on social media and left those in attendance at the University of Hartford in Connecticut confused.
The phrase “God Save The Queen” is popular with Britons and was part of the British anthem during the 60year reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
The phrase changes depending on the gender of the current monarch, and now the Brits are singing “God Save the King” again a nod to Charles III.
Biden’s speech on Friday focused on his call for new legislation to ban AR15 semiautomatic weapons and hold gun owners accountable for unsafe storage.
Later that Friday, Assistant White House Press Secretary Olivia Dalton told reporters that Biden “spoke to someone in the crowd,” clarifying the odd phrase.
BIDEN: “God save the queen!”
He’s in Connecticut. And the queen is dead…
