“It’s time to turn the lights back on,” Billy Joel wrote on Instagram. The 74-year-old singer is released Turn the light back on, his first song in 17 years, this Thursday 1stum next February.
With a short video showing him playing the piano and seemingly giving a taste of the melody of his new song, the American artist made the announcement on his social networks on Monday.
“Turn the Lights Back On” was produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler and written by Wexler, Arthur Bacon, Wayne Hector and Billy Joel.
The six-time Grammy Award-winning artist first hinted at this new song on TikTok after debuting it on the platform. In the lyrics, he asks, “Did I wait too long to turn the lights back on?”
The track will be available on all platforms and in a limited 7-inch vinyl format and will also be accompanied by a lyric video on the official YouTube channel. Pre-orders are already possible at www.billyjoel.com.
Pianist Billy Joel has released 13 studio albums, 7 live albums and 18 compilation albums throughout his career. He has sold more than 160 million albums worldwide. His album Greatest Hits – Volume I & Volume II was named the “sixth best album of all time.” The state of New York (where he is from) even named July 18th “Billy Joel Day” in his honor.
