A French couple who, according to police, wanted to “sacrifice” their five-year-old son in the Sahara were arrested in southern Spain. The two Frenchmen wanted to murder their son “in the Sahara” “because they believed he was possessed”, the Spanish Guardia Civil announced on Saturday.
According to information, the couple was arrested on December 21 in the port city of Algeciras, in southern Spain, when they intended to take a ferry with the child to Tangier, in Morocco. The parents had “psychiatric problems” and were already wanted on a European arrest warrant for “kidnapping a minor”, Spanish police said. The couple was taken into custody in Spain.
The boy is reportedly fine. He was taken to a Spanish reception center for minors before returning to France.
