The Brazilian psychologist Renata Moraes Rios, 45, was found dead on a beach in Sardinia (Italy) this Sunday morning (24). She was in Sardinia to attend the 9th International Congress of Ecopsychology (a branch of psychology that uses concepts from ecology).

The Brazilian woman’s body appeared in the sand between a campsite and the sea in the resort of Is Arenas in Narbolia in Oristano province, the Ansa news agency reported. The police are still investigating the causes of death. However, the strongest hypothesis so far is drowning.

Renata stayed at a campsite and probably went out to swim in the sea in the early hours of the morning, but never came back.

The water was choppy and the psychologist may have lost her balance due to the force of the waves. An autopsy scheduled for next Tuesday (26) will clarify the exact cause of death.

Investigators suspect that the woman drowned and her body was washed ashore by the tide, or that the Brazilian managed to reach the sand on her own but suffered an illness just a few meters from the campsite.
