BRICS summit in Johannesburg

China International Radio History was made in Johannesburg this August. The BRICS summit was held in Africa for the third time and the leaders of China and Africa met in person after five years. Together, they contributed to building a new consensus on SouthSouth cooperation, forming a highlevel community with a shared future between China and Africa, and bringing positive energy to peace and development.

A new starting point for BRICS cooperation The BRICS countries began the expansion process based on a consensus last year, during China’s presidency of the mechanism. The summit in South Africa announced an invitation to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Iran and Ethiopia to join the BRICS family as official members.

From five to eleven countries, the BRICS family has more members, greater geographical representation and more room for cooperation. However, the presence of more than 60 heads of state and government from African countries, emerging and developing countries at the summit in South Africa shows that BRICS cooperation remains attractive and inspiring and represents a clear answer to the noise and defamation.

With the incessant emergence of turmoil, transformations, risks and challenges in today’s world, the collectively awakened developing world feels a growing desire to strive for unity and progress and to resist external interference. The powerful development of BRICS contributes to expanding the platform of SouthSouth cooperation, strengthening forces defending peace and expanding the global front for justice. It is another important milestone in the solidarity and cooperation of developing countries. It will further strengthen the representation and voice of the Global South in global governance and enhance the Global South’s confidence in achieving development through unity.

This time, China announced in Johannesburg that it would set up a special fund to implement the IDG to ensure that no country is left behind in the process of global modernization. He presented three practical proposals at the ChinaAfrica Leaders’ Dialogue, namely the Africa Industrialization Support Initiative, the Chinese Support Plan for African Agricultural Modernization and the ChinaAfrica Talent Development Cooperation Plan, with the aim of supporting Africa to modernize Fast lane. African leaders expressed their strong support for the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Security Initiative (ISG) and the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), all put forward by China, and reiterated their commitment to continue one promote highquality joint Belt and Road cooperation.
