British King Charles and Camilla landed in Berlin

The British king and his wife will be received with military honors in Berlin on Wednesday. France must first wait.

British King Charles III. and his wife Camilla landed in Berlin on Wednesday, starting their three-day state visit to Germany. In fact, the monarch’s first trip abroad should have been to France, but the state visit was cancelled. Instead, the royal couple arrived at the military part of Berlin-Brandenburg Airport on Wednesday afternoon. In the center of the city, the Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife Elke Büdenbender want to welcome the two later with military honors at the Brandenburg Gate.

Several hours before the royal couple’s arrival, several visitors were waiting to see Charles and Camilla. After the salute, a reception and state banquet in honor of the monarch are planned at Bellevue Palace, Steinmeier’s official residence.

Tight schedule – from Berlin to Hamburg

On Thursday, Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the royal couple. Charles is also the first monarch to deliver a speech in the German Bundestag.

Later, the King and Steinmeier meet Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke in Brandenburg, where, among other things, a visit to an organic farm is planned. Charles and Camilla then drive to Hamburg on Friday, where the official visit ends in the evening.

Germany is the new British king’s first destination ahead of his coronation on May 6. A previously planned visit to France was postponed because of social security protests.
