Broadways Almost Famous Announces Closure

Broadway’s ‘Almost Famous’ Announces Closure

Almost Famous, the musical adaptation of the 2000 Cameron Crowe film, will have its final performance on Sunday, January 8, 2023, the latest casualty of a crowded Broadway scene and tourist season in New York that still affected by Covid.

The musical, which opened November 3 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater to mediocre reviews, will have 30 previews and 77 performances when it closes. According to the latest box office figures, Almost Famous had about 74% full houses.

“Almost Famous will endure like the music it celebrates,” the producers said in a joint statement. “We look forward to the release of the cast recording on March 17 and to the many productions in communities across the country and around the world in the years to come.”

Producers Lia Vollack and Michael Cassel announced the closing.

Almost Famous features music and co-lyrics by Tom Kitt, directed by Jeremy Herrin and choreographed by Sarah O’Gleby. The production stars are Chris Wood, Anika Larsen, Solea Pfeiffer, Drew Gehling, Rob Colletti and Casey Likes.

The past few weeks have seen closing announcements for KPOP, Ain’t No Mo’, A Strange Loop and Gabriel Byrne’s Walking With Ghosts in Broadway’s packed fall season. Ain’t No Mo’ was last week extended by one week to December 23rd.
