  • Duke of Sussex revealed more personal details about his life to Michael Strahan
  • GMA said it received a message from the palace while the show was on the air
  • Said it declined her request to provide a full transcript of the interview

Buckingham Palace lawyers asked ABC’s Good Morning America to see Prince Harry’s full interview before it would comment on his claims – but the program refused to hand over a transcript.

The Duke of Sussex revealed more personal details about his life in the breakfast show interview with former NFL player Michael Strahan, which aired in the US at around midday UK time today.

In a statement, GMA said it received a message from a law firm representing the Palace “while we were on air” asking producers to provide “a copy of the entire interview.”

But the manufacturers refused to agree to the request because “as an organization they don’t do it” because it was a “political matter”.

GMA said in a statement: “We received a reply this morning from the law firm representing Buckingham Palace while we were on air that Palace must ‘carefully consider what is being said in the interview, in the context in which it says appears’ and asked that we send you a copy of the entire interview immediately, which, as a news agency, is not our policy.’

The GMA interview heard an excerpt from Spare in which the Duke of Sussex claimed Camilla “sacrificed me on her personal PR altar”.

Harry reportedly attacked the Queen Consort’s attempts to “rehabilitate” her image after she was cast as a “third person” in his parents’ marriage, but also said he sympathized with her and said she wasn’t an “evil stepmother”.

The release of Spare, due on Tuesday, was reportedly delayed following the Queen’s death, but the Duke insisted his grandmother was not angry or upset with him for wanting to step down as a senior working royal.

Another excerpt reads, “I have complex feelings about having a stepmother who I thought recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”

When asked what Camilla was “doing” at the time, Harry replied, “I have a great deal of sympathy for her, you know. As she was the third person in my parents’ marriage, she had a reputation or image to rehabilitate.

“Whatever conversations were had, whatever deals or deals were made right at the beginning, she was made to believe that this would be the best way to do it.”

In a separate interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Harry said Camilla’s willingness to develop relationships with the British press made her “dangerous” and “that’s why bodies are left behind in the streets”.
