A school activity offered by a college to its students in Spain sparked controversy and had to be suspended. She planned a workshop where the students would cut venison.
What was presented as a food-related activity has turned into a potentially unacceptable practice for some parents of students at Badajoz University. They spoke out to cancel a school event to be held by the Hunting Association of Extremadura (south-west Spain), ABC España reports.
As explained by the Iberian media, the aim was to promote the nutritional virtues of game meat, and so the students were suggested to cut up wild boar and deer meat before cooking it for consumption.
The activity was eventually canceled
On the fringes of the activity, explanations on the slaughter, cooking and consumption of this game meat were planned. The Parents’ Association, unaware that the activity was about game promotion and that it was organized by the Hunting Association, condemned the school’s choice to the Spanish Efe press agency.
“Things have to be done well, in terms of the type of activity, allowing families to have children participate, or following hygiene measures,” said a representative quoted by CNews.
The university management finally decided to cancel the controversial activity.
