The 240W “SuperVooc” fast charge presented by Oppo during MWC 2022 and then exploited by Realme on the GT Neo 5 is today surpassed by a 300W technology presented this week by Xiaomi. Through its subsidiary Redmi, the group explains on Weibo that it can now fully charge a 4,100 mAh battery in less than five minutes from the mains. In comparison, Oppo’s fast charging announced last year took nine minutes to charge a 4,500mAh battery.
In order to beat the competitor in the fastest loading game, Redmi relies on a Redmi Note 12 “Discovery Edition” modified for the occasion. The device contains what the brand describes as a “high-speed 15C battery.” [disposant d’une] supreme chemical power”.
A compact double charger and many protective features
If you smirk at the superlatives used by Redmi, the technology developed in-house is indeed advanced. The group explains that they use a dual GaN (gallium nitride) charger, capable of developing more power while remaining compact. We also learn that this 300W device packs no less than “50 safety precautions” to prevent overheating in particular.
In detail, this new fast charge allows to recover 50% autonomy in just over two minutes of charging and then very precisely to reach 100% in 4 minutes and 54 seconds with the charger. The charging power peaks at 290.6W during the test if we follow the Xiaomi demonstration video submitted by Android Authority.
It remains to be seen when Redmi (or Xiaomi) will decide to use this technology on a commercial scale… and which device will be the first to benefit from it.
