Several brands of Brie and Camembert cheeses from Old Europe Cheese, Inc. were recalled this week due to an outbreak of Listeria that health officials say may be linked to the products.

According to the CDC, six people between the ages of 56 and 83 have fallen ill, five of whom have been hospitalized. There is also a delay in reporting recent illnesses to the authorities.

The actual number of people affected by the Listeria outbreak is likely higher, as some people are recovering without seeking medical attention.

The company on Friday issued a voluntary recall of Brie and Camembert cheeses with “best before” dates from September 28 to December 14 of this year.

The cheeses are sold under dozens of different brand names at multiple stores across the United States and Mexico, including Whole Foods, Giant Goods, Safeway, and Meijer.

None of the company’s products have tested positive for the bacteria, but a sample from one of their facilities showed contamination with a strain of listeriosis that has been linked to six cases from 2017 to 2022, according to the FDA.
