Child sends selfie and asks mom for help after teacher put stickers on his mouth

An 11yearold boy sent a selfie to his mother during class time, asking for help. All because the teacher taped his mouth shut as punishment for “talking too much in class.” The case happened in Johnston County, North Carolina, in the United States.

Catherine Webster was furious at the teacher’s attitude and after receiving the photo sent by his son, he contacted the administration of Smithfield Middle School. The educational institution apologized to the mother after the incident.

The boy captioned the photo, “I don’t know what to do.” Desperate, Catherine answered her son: “What is this? Who did this?”

As soon as he arrived at the school, the mother showed the picture to the principal and they both went into the classroom. After what happened, it was established that this was not an isolated case.. “It happened to several children in the classroom. And sometimes she (teacher) tapes some children’s fists shut. Sometimes she covers their mouths,” denounced the mother.

Although she admits that she has a son who likes to talk and talks a lot, Catherine reported that his grades are good and that the teacher never came to her to discuss any problems the boy had caused. “I’m a reasonable person and a pretty strict parent who doesn’t tolerate disrespect and understands that teachers don’t have time for repeated interruptions, so I homeschool my son when that happens,” she said.

The teacher was identified as Dawn Felix by the Chron tabloid. She taught English and art and resigned three days after the incident..

For its part, the college claimed that the administration always responded quickly to such allegations. “Sometimes we remove staff from classrooms until a full review is complete,” school officials said. Police began investigating the case, but concluded that charging the teacher with assault was not enough.
